Every instrument and bow that comes to Bridge Street Violins leaves a mark on the workshop, on the people that handle them and on the musicians who play them. This page celebrates those instruments and the journeys they have made. We are very thankful for the part we play in each instrument’s life and our part in finding a new owner for these special items.
Bridge Street Violins ‘The Prestigioso’ handmade violin
Today (19/03/2021) we mark the first sale of ‘The Prestigioso’ violin from the Bridge Street Violins range - just under one week after its launch to the range!
This violin is top of our handmade range, professionally set-up in-house and fitted with a Despiau superieur bridge and a new set of Warchal Timbre strings (including the helix E-string which makes whistling and unwanted screeching on the E a thing of the past). This instrument has it all: heritage, craft, quality and value for sound!
If you’re interested in an upgrade, and would like to take one of the ‘Apprezzato’, ‘Sonoro’, ‘Distintivo’, or ‘Prestigioso’ instruments out on approval, check them out in the shop.

The ‘Baronet Hawley’ George Craske Violin - ca. 1875
Sold on commission.
The inside label reads: “Made by George Craske - (born 1797, died 1888) - and sold by William E. Hill & Sons London. It is further marked as ‘special quality’ in handwriting.
Visible through the Bass side F-hole is a J & A Beare stock number, which matches the number on the receipt: “7921”. This instrument was sold by J & A Beare in April 1967 from their Wardour Street premises to a 7th generation Baronet’s daughter two months before her 21st birthday. Receipt PRESENT and supplied with the instrument.
