Consigning a Musical Instrument

We can help you re-home your instrument or bow

There are lots of reasons you might be thinking about selling an instrument or bow:

  • Thinking that 5 instruments ARE too many (not true, shhhh)

  • You had an instrument passed down to you through inheritance.

  • You rediscovered it in mum and dad’s attic, or you no longer play it yourself.

  • You have outgrown your instrument?

We do offer a part Exchange program so you can easily upgrade, but if that’s not on the cards and you are considering:

  • Re-homing your instrument

  • Reducing your collection

  • Or releasing your complete collection in manageable stages

You should consider consigning and let us do the hard work for you!

With many years of experience in building a client base as specialist Luthiers, Bridge Street Violins is your perfect partner
in re-homing your prized instrument(s).

Truth, trust and confidentiality are paramount,
and that is exactly what you may expect from us.

How does it work?

When your instrument or bow arrives in the shop we will determine and agree a realistic price point. Not all instruments are equal in terms of buyer’s market desirability, so not every instrument would be suitable to sell this way. The best way to find out is to get in touch with us and book an appointment to show us the instrument or bow. If we think it fits in the collection we can move forward with consignment. Our experts at Bridge Street Violins reserve the right to make the final decision.

Musical instruments and bows need maintenance, even if they have not been used in a while.

If you are selling an instrument or bow, we advise that you get it in tip top condition so it looks its best for prospective buyers. If your items need a little love and care before going to market get the absolute best price for you, we have the required tools and expertise in-house to carry this out.

Any and all agreed work needs to be completed and compensated before the instrument can be offered for sale.

What Happens Next?

Once an item has been consigned with Bridge Street Violins, we take professional quality photography and create a product listing for you on our website and we advertise your consigned item to our ever growing network and channels of customers.

What happens when my consignment sells?

We handle the complete selling process for you and when your consignment sells we will be in touch to let you know. Once the buyer pays in full, 80% of the sale price will be transferred directly into your chosen bank account.

Bridge Street Violins deducts a 20% flat-rate commission for the time spent marketing and the service of selling your consignment.

If we don’t sell it, you don’t pay anything!

So where does a 20% sale commission put us in the market? Many others charge at least a fee of 25%.
And some dealers even charge a lot more to sell your instrument!

So with Bridge Street Violins you get to keep more of the profits, get a higher return of your investment,
and see a greater pay for your hard work as a craftsperson so you can keep doing what you love.

Finding the right buyer can take time, after all the work is done we need the right buyer to see it and walk through the door.

This could take months from presenting your instrument to the market, it could be a year from presentation, or even just a week! We never know and that is the surprise and the adventure of this business.

This may not always be the quickest method of selling… but it is without any doubt the best method to get the highest return from your instrument.

No sale = No commission payment = Zero risk

Don’t take just our word for it, here is what our previous clients thought of this service:

Highly recommend Bridge Street Violins! I am so happy with the service I’ve received. Laurentius is fantastic, warm and respectful towards the instruments and customers. I just sold my old violin through him and feel so happy it’s now re-homed.

Selling my violin was a huge decision and he’s treated the sale with respect and warmth throughout. I’m delighted that the instrument will now be used by someone else who will love it and am so happy with the outcome. Strongly recommend!

Thank you so much for the good news. My daughter is delighted the instrument we consigned with you sold so quickly. Thank you for your efforts on our behalf. We are very grateful.

I gave Laurentius my father’s old violin to restore. He worked for the Ministry of Supply as a mechanical engineer during WW2. I had never heard it play before as I was too young to know him before his death in the Blitz in July 1944.

It sounded beautiful when he played it for me and I am grateful for his efforts in finding a home for the violin as well. The new owners even are engineers too! This was truly meant to be.
